Monday...Exam Day

I guess not every day can be profound....and today wasn't. I spent the morning studying (with just one break to walk the old walls for a bit in search of a geocache...found it!). After lunch was our exam and then classroom lecture until 5:00.

Tomorrow morning we move out of Jerusalem for 3 days and 2 nights as we head down south to the Negev Desert region. We will go from the Mediterranean Ocean to the west, through the desert and then back up near the Dead Sea to the east. We will get the opportunity to swim in both the Mediterranean Sea and the Dead Sea. We will also hit Masada and Qumran as we head north before turning west again and arriving back in Jerusalem late Thursday afternoon. So it was a transition day wrapping up our study of central Israel and preparing us for our study of southern Israel this week.

One picture just to make you smile and think. When we were walking the other day on the grounds of the Dome of the Rock (where the Temple was built...this small piece of land that is so meaningful and controversial), we came across this school group laughing and cheering through their sack races. (You have to love the Bob the Builder backpack!) There is something wonderful about children's laughter and joy that can cut through the tension and division that we often cultivate. I was tempted to join them, but I didn't. I probably should have asked if I could...

I will do my packing tonight with maybe a chance to go for another walk through the Old City as the sun is going down and it starts to get cooler again. Hopefully there will be more profound insights in days to come!
